Fireworks Festival
Hello Everyone,
Things are starting to shape up for the fireworks festival this weekend. I had a meeting today with the organizers and I think I have a handle on what is going on. This year is a bit different because they are unable to use the Victoria Bridge as a launching point so there has been lots of last minute arranging to do.
So here is the plan:
Both Friday and Saturday nights we will meet at 5:30 at the Meewasin Valley Center at 402 3rd ave south.
From 6pm to 6:30 we will put on a short demonstration in Friendship park. Please wear your gi to the demonstration, it will save on time and confusion if we are all ready to go and no-one needs to get changed (if possible).
Once the demonstration is over we will get changed (I am making arrangements for that) and get ready to deploy to the other side of the river to set up and man the fire line. All of us will be on the same side of the river this year but it is a very long line we have to mantain. Please wear comfortable shoes (there may be some patroling/walking for some positions) and if each person can bring a flashlight that is very helpful. The organizers supply us with nice red shirts and radios to help us out.
We patrol our area until the fireworks are done then we quickly move the barricades and go home. On saturday we will have to do a bit of disassembling of the barricades.
We could still use a few more workers for Saturday night if you know of any other helpers.
I have attached a map of the Meewasin valley center. You may want to park on the opposite side of the river and walk across but remember to bring your change of clothes and all your gear if you do.
